Delta Air Lines waives fee for the first checked bag, and introduces more benefits for SkyMiles credit card holders.

Starting June 1 American Express Delta SkyMiles credit card holders will be able to check first bag for free on all Delta flights. It applies to up to nine passengers in the same reservation. Gold, Platinum and Reserve Delta SkyMiles Credit Cardmembers can enjoy this benefit.

First checked bag fee on Delta domestic flights is usually $23-25, so with this new advantage for SkyMiles Cardmembers from American Express savings can be up to $50 for a round trip per person and if you have a family of four, you can save up to $200. The fee for cardholders will be waived during check-in. First and business class passengers can already check their first and second bag for free and now those who travel economy class will enjoy this valuable benefit when they fly Delta.

Today Delta Air Lines and American Express offer their cardmembers many advantageous features: no earning caps on how many miles you can earn; double miles on every dollar spent on Delta tickets, and one mile on every dollar for other eligible purchases; the ability to pay with miles for the entire or a portion of a Delta flight; a companion certificate for a domestic flight upon renewal of cardmembership; the ability to transfer earned miles into hotel stays, merchandise, car rentals and more at discounted rates; first-class customer service and extended purchase and travel protection. Among last year changes in the Delta loyalty program was combining of two programs to bring even more benefits and choices to all members, like ability to earn status, get upgrades, etc.

What else to expect? Delta is working on adding a greater allocation of Preferred Seats on all flights to guarantee best seats to loyal customers even in case of a last minute booking. For example the display of pricing and availability will be repaired; more search options and flight services will be added and more.
