Green Dot Prepaid Cards Get MoneyPak Reload Option

[Friday, May 13th, 2016]

Holders of Green Dot reloadable prepaid cards have a new way to fill up their cards when funds run low.

MoneyPak, Green Dot’s reloading product, is now available to be purchased at retailers across the country. MoneyPak had previously been available, but sales were stopped when the product was found to be subject to misuse.

“Consumer demand for MoneyPak was always strong, as it was one of our best-selling products prior to its sales being suspended,” said Steve Streit, chairman and CEO of Green Dot. Streit said the company was busy designing a new system that would mitigate the potential for misuse of the product. “With that new system now in place, our goal is to fulfill the same consumer demand that fueled the product’s original popularity, but in a way that’s better controlled and monitored,” said Streit.

MoneyPak features include:

• The ability to load money onto a family member or friend’s card. Folks can add from $20 to $500 on another person’s card for a fee of $5.95
• The option to reload at the register. MoneyPak allows users to reload their card at the register, even if they forgot their card at home.
• Reload on the go when you register on and use your MoneyPak number to enable mobile reloading capability.
• Use MoneyPak with any of more than 300 programs currently participating in the Green Dot network.

Prepaid cards offer convenience and many options for use

Prepaid cards have become a popular alternative to credit cards, debit cards, and cash because they are easy to use. There are also multiple options for reloading and using the cards.

Most cards can be reloaded via direct deposit, so folks can have their paychecks put directly on their prepaid cards. Some cards waive their monthly fee if users have at least one direct deposit per month.

Alternative to bank accounts

Since most prepaid cards also offer the ability to pay bills, transfer money, and withdraw cash from an ATM, they are being used more and more as alternatives to traditional checking accounts.

People who are fed up with paying higher fees for checking accounts at banks are turning to prepaid cards as an option for paying bills, making purchases, getting cash, and getting paid. Many cards offer the same benefits as an actual checking account.

Now that MoneyPak has returned to stores as an option for reloading, many prepaid cardholders will no doubt rejoice.
