American Express Gears Up for Holidays With Shop Small Studio

[Saturday, October 29th, 2016]

The holidays are coming right up, and retailers are gearing up. This year, American Express will sponsor Small Business Saturday for the seventh year in a row, encouraging people to patronize local small retailers on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

For this year’s edition, Amex is turning the focus to digital marketing and helping businesses promote sales through revamped advertising efforts. In the weeks leading up to Small Business Saturday, they are sponsoring three boot camps, each one zoning in on a different aspect of marketing and promoting their businesses.

The first one is a how-to workshop led by Rhonda Abrams, author of Successful Business Plan: Secrets & Strategies. The next is an interactive panel hosted by local small business owners and community leaders, who will share their real-life experiences about what’s helped them grow their businesses. And the last one, an on-site Shop Small Studio, will let attendees create custom marketing materials for their business in anticipation of the holiday shopping season.

Businesses can make their own marketing materials online

Inside the online Shop Small Studio, small business owners can create print and digital marketing materials, customized with their log. They can make flyers, posters, save the date cards, website badges, Facebook and Twitter cover photos, and assets to use on social media.

The website will include how-to guides, tips and insights from other small business owners, videos, infographics, and more.

“Our ultimate goal is to help small businesses do more business – and for Small Business Saturday, that includes arming them with the tools to help make the day a success,” said American Express vice president Amy Marino, who heads up the Small Business Saturday team.

Neighborhood Champions program helps out

On Small Business Saturday, nearly 3,000 small business owners, community organizers and other volunteers will rally their communities and encourage people to shop small. They have pledged to help out however they can, supporting their fellow small business owners and spreading the word.
Small Business Saturday takes place November 26 this year and will include events across the United States. Be sure and have your American Express card handy when you go out shopping that day, to take advantage of special promotions at participating small businesses.
