SBC invests in educational programs and adds value to communities through Community & Philanthropic Services department and through the Center for Consumer Advocacy.
HSBC’s Community & Philanthropic Services department focuses on projects and organizations that educate students aged 13-19 (scholarship support is extended to students up to age 25), particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. HSBC provides Corporate Contributions that give young people a positive attitude, opportunities for success, and a better future.
HSBC’s Center for Consumer Advocacy also supports financial education through a variety of sources in order to reach as many people as possible and provide them with tools to make smart financial decisions:
- Through Financial Education Grant program, HSBC has supported 44 grassroots organizations with $5 million in grants to develop financial literacy programs in local communities, over the last five years.
- In partnership with Center for Neighborhood Enterprise, a national nonprofit organization, the company offered 150 financial education workshops during 2006. The curriculum is designed to help consumers manage their spending and borrowing.
- HSBC awarded a $750,000 multi-year grant to the Society for Financial Education and Professional Development (SFEPD), which funds credit and personal money management training for more than 20,000 students over a 3-year period, beginning in 2005.
- The HSBC – Bennett College for Women Financial Empowerment Program provides a combination of scholarships and financial education for students and faculty.
- HSBC furthers its commitment to supporting community revitalization through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance.
