Credit Cards In Excess
Some new credit deals can be tempting. But before filling out a new application, one should be aware of the fact that too many plastics can lead to a lot of trouble. Too much debt, dramatic decrease of your credit score or simply a mess in bills and payments... Banks used to consider an applicant with many plastics a greater risk - as a person who is unable to manage his or her finance wisely. It's important to be moderate in applying for new cards.
Credit Card Tart
Credit "tarts" are a type of consumers who are always ready to take a new deal due to the attractive terms it provides - lower interest, more rewards... But such kind of "rate surfing" can be harmful for both the credit rating and the budget of the person. Banks offer so alluring deals that credit tarts can't stop getting new plastics, bringing more and more profit to the banks. Rate surfing is an arguable way of getting the most of credit card benefits.
Premium Credit Cards
People of incredible means have high end credit card deals to use. These products are known as elite, limited edition, giving exclusive rewards and services for sky-high charges. The list of them is not well known, though. Black AmEx can only be pre-approved and the advantages it gives can only be known to the cardholder. Visa Signature gives elite perks for special people. Plastics with luxurious rewards are legends...
Do You Know That...
When you make a payment, the merchant runs your plastic through the point of sale unit, and several steps of the transaction follow.
1) Your card number and transaction amount are sent for authorization, so that both the acquirer of the payment and the issuer could answer back to the merchant that the transaction is possible (the account number is valid, there is enough funds in the account). It takes no more than a minute.
2) After authorization, your transaction, as well others, is placed in a batch. It is stored there until the merchant sends batch to the bank-acquirer to receive payment (usually once a day).
3) The issuing bank is requested for payment, and after the authorization data is verified once again, the issuer is debited for the amount of transaction. The acquiring bank receives the funds, paying the interchange fee.
4) The acquirer pays the merchant that receives the amount of the transaction excluding bank service charge.
The process described above takes minimum 2 maximum 7 business days.
In case of a chargeback (due to an error in processing or the buyer disputing the transaction), the issuer makes a return of funds to the acquirer, the latter requesting the merchant for chargeback. If the merchant agrees to chargeback, the customer is not billed.
